Michael Kailis came from a family of fishermen off the coast of Western Australia. When he wasn't with his beloved wife Patricia, he could be found on a boat of some kind. Michael’s love of the water became a profession, as he developed a successful ship building business and was known as the Australian lobster purveyor. With the help of his wife, he found another treasure on the seabed that would change the course of his life. The Australian South Sea pearl was unique in its size and its luster. As the pearl farming business prospered the Kailis family again showed their pioneering spirit by opening the first pearl retail store in the heart of Broome, Western Australia. To this day Broome is still recognised as the spiritual home of the Australian South Sea pearl.

Between Michael's knowledge of the water and Patricia's eye for beauty and quality, the Kailis name has become synonymous with the finest South Sea Pearls. To this day the family continues to be very involved in the company and has successfully touched the lives of millions of men and women across the world.
